The Chronicles Of Led Zeppelin label returns to form with two fascinating and very important releases for the Zeppelin collector. Final Night At The Garden (TCOLZ 057/058) contains the first two thirds of the June 14th, 1977 Madison Square Garden show. This is all that circulates and has only been available on pressed CD in several very rare and expensive boxsets. Slowing Down In Buffalo (TCOLZ 059/060/061/062/063) is a five disc set documenting Zeppelin's July 15th, 1973 show in Buffalo, New York. This has the common soundboard fragment but makes the debut of the complete audience source. CMR
Nov 12, 2009
Scorpio released Crossroads From New Orleans, featuring the May 14 1973 New Orleans soundboard with the excellent audience tape used to fill in the gaps. It looks like a wholly unnecessary release since this has been out many times before. We still need a good, affordable title featuring the excellent audience tape which is superior to the soundboard. CMR
Nov 8, 2009
The prolific and legendary Tarantura have released several titles recently. Led Zeppelin In the Wake Of The Valkrie is a six disc, extremely limited box (same box style as Bootleg Licence with the magnetic flip top) with the following shows:
14 Mar 69 - Plays Gothic Blues Uppsala, Sweden, 1CD, Pre-FM
10 Oct 69 - In the Act Of Invoking The Spirit, Paris, 1CD, Pre-FM
01 Apr 71 - Never Was Angel In Heaven London, 2CD, Pre-FM

30 years later and we still haven't got an official release of Led Zeppelin's return to an England stage in 1979. What we do have is Led Zeppelin - Knebworth Masters (no label), live at Knebworth Festival, Stevenage, England, August 4, 1979 3DVD. "Knebworth Masters claims to be from the master video which may be true. Unlike the other two prior titles, the picture is almost perfect all the way through the entire show. The colors are a bit off in some of the brighter moments but overall the picture is sharp, detailed, colorful and very lively making the two and a half performance a joy to watch. Since the video was geared for the large screens above the stage to give those sitting in the back a view of the action, the shots favor intense close ups of faces, fingers, guitars and pianos. It is funny to see some of the strange faces Jimmy Page and Robert Plant make to one another, a subtlety probably missed by much of the audience that night." - Collectors Music Reviews.

Empress Valley are set to release a new Led Zeppelin 1975 soundboard. It is called Long Beach Californication and will be available in three editions: Type A will be a 'mega deluxe set with special T-shirt,' Type B deluxe version in digipack, and Type C in the 'standard edition' (whatever that is). This is a soundboard of Zeppelin's March 11th, 1975 show at the Long Beach Arena. This show has been released in the past many times before in one of the most amazing audience recordings available. It's nice to have a new Zep soundboard, but since this already has a great sounding tape it's questionable what exactly will be its worth. CMR

The Chronicles Of Led Zeppelin continue with One Night Stand In Paris (TCOLZ 029/030). This is a two disc set of the October 10th, 1969 L'Olympia radio broadcast. The first disc claims to be a pre-FM transfer without DJ comments and the second disc is the 2007 broadcast with DJ comments. I've received several inquires already about the veracity of this claim. As with all releases this should be taken with a grain of salt until verified which is what we'll do next week. CMR

Empress Valley released an interesting new title today called St. Valentine's Day Massacre. This is a three disc soundboard from the excellent February 14th, 1975 Nassau Coliseum gig with the entire show. Initial reports say this is in very good mono. There is a special extremely limited Murder Incorporated Edition limited to only 200 copies and priced higher than the already high priced normal edition. CMR

The Chronicles Of Led Zeppelin released today a six-disc set titled We're Playing Our Balls Out which contains both audience sources of Los Angeles March 27th, 1975 show. The first source, recorded by late Mike Millard, was released most recently by Empress Valley Supreme Disc as a part of their huge box set titled Deep Throat and was spliced with an alternate, poorer sounding source to make a complete performance. TCOLZ consists of two entirely released sources, each without splices to provide the complete tapes without equalization.
Four Blocks In The Snow is another six-disc set which contains both excellent sounding audience sources of New York February 12th, 1975 show. The first source, immortalized mostly by The Diagrams Of Led Zeppelin on their Can't Take Your Evil Ways contains, for the first time, the complete 'Moby Dick' without the cut in the middle. The second source, released in the past only by Electric Magic as That's Alright, New York was plagued by heavy equalization but on this new release the source is presented without any remastering. Black & Blue And Snot All Over: 1975 Chicago Tapes Vol. 3 (TCOLZ 013/014) is a two disc set with the January 22nd, 1975 show. Since volume three is released first, we can assume there will be two more volumes in this series. This is an audience recording. This is the second known source of this show. The quality is rated as "fair to very good". It is an almost complete tape missing a chunk of Moby Dick and all of Black Dog. CMR

July 26, 2008
Back in 2004, Watch Tower released a one disc title called Led Zeppelin's Rock Carnival (WT 2004111). Clocking in at just over an hour covering the first third of the September 23rd, 1971 Tokyo show, this tape is in excellent quality and is perhaps the best sounding to emerge from Zeppelin's first show at the Budokan. Rock Carnival was also frustrating in its incompleteness and with the fact that the rest of the tape supposedly burned in a fire many years ago. It seems that is only a rumor, and a false one at that. Last week surfaced a three disc set titled Led Zeppelin's Flying Rock Carnival 1971 Complete. This is supposed to be the complete Rock Carnival source in excellent quality. This specific release is aimed for only the Osaka market and is already sold out. Needless to say, this will be released again very very soon (so don't panic!)
July 23, 2008
Scorpio have re-released Timeless Rock on their Watchtower label. This is a re-release of the September 23rd, 1971 Tokyo show they issued in 2001, but with a snazzy new cover. And Drive Me Insane contains three 1969 shows from the Fillmore East.

Wendy finally has an interesting Led Zeppelin release coming out soon. The Nobs (Wendy WECD-124/125) is a two disc set with the February 28th, 1970 at the KB Hallen in Copenhagen, Denmark. Famous for being the show where they changed their name for one night to appease the nut Eva Von Zeppelin, this tape hasn't been released in about fifteen years and has been very difficult to find.

The Scorpio label released two Led Zeppelin titles recently. Good Times Bad Times is a two disc set with both the October 10th, 1969 Paris radio broadcast on disc one and the October 12th, Lyceum Theater, London show on disc two. The Paris tape is from the radio broadcast and is not any more complete than the other versions released. According to the label, they edited out the French mc. Get Back is a three disc set with Led Zeppelin's June 28th, 1972 Tucson Arizona show, the final night of their legendary 1972 summer US tour.

Also coming out on Wendy is Chaos And Change (WECD-115/116/117). This is the first release in three years of the March 11, 1975 Long Beach Millard tape. The late, great Mike Millard was a great taper and his recordings are legend.
June 22, 2008
The Balloon Boy's Rock Carnival In Tokyo (EVSD-513/514/515) is the strange name for Empress Valley's latest Led Zeppelin release. This covers the September 24th, 1971 Budokan show utilizing the old TDOLZ Light And Shade audience recording. Also released on EV today is The Lost Sessions Vol. 12: All Roads Lead To Headley Grange Vol. 3 (EVSD-511). This is another regurgitation of common material with 'Kashmir,' 'Trampled Underfoot,' 'Swan Song' and 'Custard Pie.'

Long Drive To Seattle (The Chronicles Of Led Zeppelin 004/005/006/007) is a four disc set with the alternate tape source that was partially used on No Quarter on H-Bomb source for the March 21, 1975 concert with the legendary 45 minute version of Dazed & Confused. The Godfather Records will release Robert Plant and Allison Krauss' The Long Journey 2CD audience tape from the May 10 Dusseldorf show & Led Zeppelin's Royal Albert Hall: The Initial Tapes 2CD of the Kevin Shirley working master tapes used for the DVD set.
June 18, 2008

May 23, 2008
Just released is the Led Zeppelin title When a Glass Was Thrown 2CD containing the Buffalo recording from October 30, 1969 on the Tarantura label. There is confirmed a mis-pressing on Disc 3 of the 6/22/77 show in the recent Empress Valley FBO Box Set and it is expected that EV will be issuing a replacement disc for those that purchased but that is NOT confirmed...keep in touch with your network about that possibility.
"A new Led Zeppelin-dedicated label was announced May 19. The Chronicles Of Led Zeppelin is established as an original successor to the now legendary The Diagrams Of Led Zeppelin label and is set to release many uncirculated sources from the Led Zeppelin live catalogue," reports Collectors Music Reviews. The Japanese label intends to re-release all existing tapes without "heavy equalization or editing". They are planning to use only the master tapes or low generation copies. The first two titles due in June will include the Seattle March 21, 1975 alternate source and the Atlanta April 23, 1977 tapes. While the Seattle source was previously used as a filler to the original (basic) tape on H-Bomb's No Quarter many years ago, Atlanta seems to be the debut of this rather very good sounding material.
